About

School mission

At Langton Public School we are committed, as a team of educators, students and parents, to provide a safe, positive learning environment where all children have the opportunity to develop intellectually, socially, and physically as lifelong learners.

School history

Langton Public School was named after Anne Langton, an artist, writer, and teacher who came to the area in May 1837 from England. She voyaged across the Atlantic, up the St. Lawrence River, and over land and by row boat to the shores of Sturgeon Lake. Anne Langton settled on her brother’s farm known as the Blythe Farm, and there she taught the settlers’ children. She also wrote journals and made sketches, some of which hang in our school today. One of her journals, “A Gentlewoman in Upper Canada” was written in Fenelon Falls. Anne Langton lived from 1804 to 1893.
