On January 27, Ridgewood Public School invited all families to visit the school and read with their child(ren) in celebration of Family Literacy Day.
This annual day is a Canadian initiative promoted by ABC Life Literacy Canada, and is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.
Each family was invited for a 45-minute time block to visit the school between 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. to read with their child(ren). Some Kindergarten students dressed up like characters from their favourite books!
“Everyone enjoyed reading various texts – from non-fiction, fairy tales, Dr. Seuss, Robert Munsch, and so many more,” explained Kindergarten teacher, Bonnie Tokar. “A huge thank you to our wonderful parents and guardians who support the love of reading, and who were able to join us for the day.”
